Senior Night 2004

We recently had our senior night for the class of 2004. We recognized our boys basketball, swimming, and cheerleading teams. It was a really memorable night thanks to a bunch of parents, friends, our high school principal and our athletic director. We have tons of pictures for you and a lot of great ideas you can use for your senior night.

With 15 students being honored on senior night we knew we would have to start early in preparing for it. So in early January my mother and I started taking lots of pictures of everyone. We used the pictures for posters and for gifts. This was one of our favorite pictures. I added the purple and gold outline to this picture, made a 5 x 7 of it and gave it to the guys as one of their gifts.

One of our cheerleaders wanted to take individual pictures of each player surrounded by the senior cheerleaders. We thought this was a great idea. I printed out all 7 of these and added them to our senior wall for the varsity basketball players and also gave copies of them to the boys.

We surprised the boys by decorating their rooms.

We made posters and signs for all of the rooms.

We gave the guys spirit poms.

We hung balloons and streamers all around the room and left the framed 5 X7 pictures of the seniors on the guy's beds and a huge gold bag full of candy. The girls asked the rest of the cheerleaders to bake cookies for the boys and they each received a tray with 4 dozen homemade cookies.

One of the basketball mom's (a big thank you to Mrs. Proehl and DeVonne) had organized the guys and they were decorating the girls lockers.

DeVonne Pierce made these awesome posters for each girl. She also made the guys similar posters that you will see at the end of this section.

She also made these giant letters for each girl.

Mrs. Proehl took pictures of each girl in front of a 2004 poster and them made 8 X 10's for them.

She then had the senior boys decorate each locker and add a special note to each girl.

Like most schools, we always give the mom's roses on senior night. This year we thought we would try something a little different. We decided to use silk roses instead of real ones. My mom bought the nicest long stem roses she could find at "Hobbie Lobbie." They even had fake thorns on the stems. She did this so the mom's would have a keepsake they could put in a vase along side their child's senior picture on graduation night.

She then attached a little thank you note to each of the roses.

We bought fresh babies breath to add to our flowers. Before we used them we cut the ends off and let them soak in water for a few hours. The water really helped rejuvenate them.

Instead of buying fresh greenery we bought dried greenery. Before we used this, we opened up the packages and pulled the stems apart. This helped the greenery spring back into its original shape.

Then my mother and I put everything together, wrapped it with tissue paper and tied it together with a white ribbon. We even added a drop of concentrated rose perfume. They smelled wonderful and looked fabulous.

We always give the girls a gift bag full of goodies. This year I decided to make personalized canvas tote bags to use as the gift bags.

I printed each girl's name, senior night and the date on the back of each one.

I also made one for our cheer coach.

One of the items I included in the gift bags was a cheerleading picture frame. We put each girl's individual picture in this frame. I did not get a picture of it for the website so we had to substitute the group shot for you to see how the frame turned out.

These were very easy to make. We used a permanent purple marker and drew a square around the outside of the frame. We did this so we would not have any clear sections of the frame showing through.

All we did was lay a t-square over the top of the frame and then traced above it with our purple marker.

We found these cute purple and pink memory maker pieces at "Hobbie Lobbie" for just $1.88 a packet. We laid these on the frame and then glued them down. We at first tried craft glue for this and the little pieces popped off. We ended up using our glue gun.

We also gave the girls another picture. We started with our favorite group shot.

I used Photoshop and made a matte to go on top of the picture.

I printed the picture and matte out on photo paper.

We put them in plastic frames and they looked great.

I think what the seniors liked the most was the wall my mother and I made for them.

We made an exact cardboard duplicate of the basketball jerseys and cheerleaders uniform tops. Each one had the students picture, name and number on it. We also made special ones for the swim team and our manager.

If you would like to make these we have detailed instructions on how to make all of them. Click on the picture if you would like to see the instructions.

We also put up our seniors kindergarten pictures, their junior high basketball and cheerleading squad pictures and all of their high school team pictures.

We had smaller pictures of each senior guy surrounded by the cheerleaders, a large 8 X 10 of everyone, a thank you note to the parents, and a copy of Michael W. Smith's song "Friends" on the senior wall.

Before the Varsity game, all our seniors and their parents go out in the hall way to line up for the senior night ceremony. Our junior cheerleaders are in charge of handing out the gifts and balloons as each family enters the gym.

As each student walks out, our athletic director reads a list of all of their accomplishments, future plans, life goals and favorite Bible verse. The parents and seniors made a line that stretched from one side of the gym to the other.

This is another one of the posters that DeVonne Pierce made for the seniors.

Our senior girls wore yellow body suits for this game so they would stand out. They also stood in the front to lead sidelines. The senior parents were especially happy that our coach let the girls do this. They took tons of pictures of the seniors and this will make their senior night even more memorable.
