Sandal Decoration

It's really easy to make matching flip flop sandals for your squad. These are great to wear when you don't want to get your cheer shoes dirty. They are perfect for cheer camp (when you're not cheering), and look sharp if you use your school colors. Your squad can get together to decorate your sandals.

Most discount stores have undecorated flip flops for less than $2.00. We got these at Hobby Lobby for $1.99 and found even cheaper ones at Big Lots.

We bought a lot of cheap ribbon (some solid colored and some decorated). We used magazines pictures and Hobby Lobby craft instructions to get ideas. Hobby Lobby's website has great instructions on decorating sandals.

We bought a few big packs of embroidery thread to use on the sandals.

When Hobby Lobby had a half-off sale on fake flowers, we stocked up. They have floral sales very often.

We used a divided plastic tray to put our ribbons, bows, and decorative items in.

We laid towels and old blankets on the floor (to keep the carpet clean).

We sat in a circle and put everything in the middle. This made it really easy to reach in and take what you needed for decorating.

Make sure that everybody has their own bottle of tacky glue and scissors.

We found that if you wrapped the embroidery thread around the plastic top of the sandals, the flowers/ribbon would stick better.

We put all of the finished sandals in a box. The tacky glue takes a long time to dry, and the sandals are easier to take home this way.
