Scrapbooking

Do you take a lot of pictures? In case you can't tell from my web site, we do. We take a bunch. Most are stuck in photo albums, in no special order or theme. When we get our old albums out to look at they're pretty boring and don't really show what the previous year of cheerleading was like. All we have are a lot of pictures of stunts, group shots and girls smiling in front of the camera. This year we have been inspired to try something different, more creative.
One of our cheer mom's puts together a really fabulous photo album/scrap book every year for her daughter. Not only does she take pictures of her daughter and our squad, but also she takes pictures of practically everything else. Stuff we would have never thought of. What she ends up creating is a really neat record of everything that happened during the basketball season. This is why I'm creating a new section on the wed site, just for scrapbook ideas. All of the pictures are from just one of her scrapbooks. I'm hoping this can inspire all of you into making a truly memorable record of your year cheering.

This is just her first scrapbook. If you want to see her second scrapbook, go here!

Our cheer mom always starts her scrapbooks with the front page of the holiday basketball tournament we are always in. It's the first game of our season. Since we don't cheer for a fall sport, it is the first time we get to cheer in front of our student body.

The next page is usually a page with the basketball teams picture and numbers. This makes perfect since, because these are the guys we cheer for.

She includes items from the game like admission tickets or special commemorative items.

She writes a note on each page of game photographs telling if we won or loss, leading scorers, if someone was injured, or any other important fact pertaining to the game.

She always takes plenty of action shots of the guys.

A lot of the time when she has a page of us cheering she includes a picture of what the guys were doing on the court at the same time.

For the second game of this tournament she took a picture of the scoreboard. For several of the boys this was the first time their name was listed on a high school scoreboard.

In a game with a lot of fouls, it seemed appropriate to take a picture of the ref.

She used the back page of the program. It had an ad on it for our school. What made this so neat was it had a picture of some boys holding a basketball trophy. This was a picture of our high school players when they were in Jr. High and went to State.

In this set of pictures she has a picture of the boys shooting a free throw and one of us showing what we do when they're shooting a free throw.

They had also called a timeout right before the free throw, so she included a picture of our team talking to our coach. It looked neat and filled up empty space on another picture.

She always tries to include action shots from each player who played at that game.

Several of the guys made all tournament team and she took pictures as they received their award

Of course when we won the tournament there were lots of pictures of the team and our squad.

Right after their first tournament the ranking for area basketball teams came out and we were rated tenth in the area. This was the highest we had ever received. She included the article in the scrapbook

She always includes a shot of the special breakaway we make for each home game

She includes a lot of great pictures of our coach, Mr. Fox. He is loved and respected by everyone. He is a Godly man who has had a tremendous influence on the students at our school for the last 19 years. Every freshman and senior at P.C.S will have him for Bible.

When she wants to take a close up picture of one of our cheers she will take a shot of each side and then put them together in this neat way.

She always has plenty of group shots of us.

On several of the pages she uses far away shots and close ups.

What ties all of the images together is they were taken at about the same time. So the pages tell a mini story.

On this page and the next one she took close ups of the girls and then did a full body shot of each one.

These pages were opposite each other and looked really neat when the album was opened up.

This is a great page because she had full body shots of our starting 5 players. Then when one of them was fouled she turned her camera at an angel and took a slanted shot of his free throw. It contrasted nicely with the other.

Something else that she does is take photographs of all the mascot pictures which hang in the high school gyms we visit.

At the start of our season one of our senior cheerleaders had some knee problems. At the time we wondered why she would take a picture of her with her leg brace, but now it makes since. We worked around the injury, making sure she was included in all of our cheers. When I look at this now I am reminded at how we all worked together on this.

This mom has been taking pictures for a long time and she knows exactly how to time her shot to get the opening jump ball at its peak.

Her action shots are so good that we often make 8 X10 enlargements of them to give the players parents.

Her free throw shots are also great. The digital pictures I have taken of her scrapbook for this section can't begin to show you how great a photographer she is.
