T Shirt Surgery

If you have shirts left over from camp, this is a fun way to turn them into cute tops. Exposed serging is a great way to add color to your shirts and make them fit nicer.

We started out with an XL t-shirt (with a design from our store) so that we'd have a lot of extra fabric. If you only have a small shirt, you can use an XL t-shirt for the back.

We cut a rectangle out of the shirt. Make sure to measure carefully because it's easy to mess up on this step. Save your scrap fabric for making straps.

We took the front rectangle from the shirt and folded it diagonally. We ran this edge through our serger (sewing machine).

We folded the shirt and serged it a few more times.

On the back part of the shirt we did the serging process again.

We did a different pattern on the back.

We put our front and back pieces together. We serged the inside seams and then turned it inside-out. Notice how the shirt is a small size now.

We folded the top and the bottom of the shirt over and hemmed them. Then we added straps that tie at the top.

This tank top was a big boring t-shirt before, and now it is a cute top.

We have this design on un-altered T shirts in our Cheer Store!
