As a follower of Jesus Christ, I believe humanity has broken their relationship with God due to our own sinful decisions and desires. The bad news is that no matter how good we think we are, we are not perfect. At one point or another, even if it's not intentional or unconsciously, we have insulted someone with our words and actions. We harm ourselves with our words and actions, decimating relationships and creating a lonely environment when people are by nature relational. We think of things we shouldn’t, we will lie and deceit. We will do things that we know are not right but continue doing it anyways. When alone in secret and left to our own devices we are inclined to our sinful nature, it’s a part of us. These truths can be a bit offensive and embarrassing and even upsetting. No one wants to be placed in the spotlight. But if we are honest with ourselves by accepting our flaws and placing our pride aside we can become better human beings, creating stronger relationships and living a fruitful life. Accepting who we are is half the battle. We are not perfect and we definitely have checked all the boxes mentioned above, but now what? Well, there is good news. God has given humanity an opportunity to restore that relationship with Him again that was once lost. God has devised a divine and indestructible plan to fix that bridge between God and humanity. How can an immortal and divine being have any contact with a mortal being? How can the pure dwell within the impure? Let's look at these verses out of one of Paul's letters to the christians in Philippi....
5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Philippians 2: 5-8
God himself gave up His divine position, to come down and become human flesh as Jesus of Nazareth to reveal Himself to us. The role of Jesus is of utmost importance in history. At the age of 30 Jesus began his ministry, and for 3 years he lived among us demonstrating His love and compassion to those broken hearted and lost.
He descended to earth to demonstrate how we should conduct ourselves as God's children. His followers documented His journey and His marvelous works. Jesus was the only perfect and sinless human being to exist that could restore that bound between the human race and God. He was the proof to God, the Father, that humanity is capable of perfection through Him. He became the umbrella that covers us and disguises us with His blood, so that when God looks upon us, He doesn’t see our flaws and sins, but He sees Jesus as the perfect sinless advocate for humanity. It was the only way and the only solution. Thanks to Him, it's a graceful gift that will never be destroyed. It’s an underserved gift that can never be earned and it’s still available for anyone and everyone who chooses to follow Jesus and accept him as their Lord and savior.
